Lowrance has been an industry leader in marine electronics for recreational boaters for decades. They started out with flasher style sonar units back in the 1950s. Today they design and build everything from boat radios to GPS chartplotters to powerful marine radar systems.

Starting with the latest HDS-series reports, you'll find our Lowrance marine GPS reviews are enhanced with a small table in the right hand column listing high and lows for each unit as we noted them during testing.

LMS-Series A myriad of Lowrance marine GPS chartplotters have been on the market over the last several years with screen sizes ranging from 3.5-inches on up. As an overview of this line of chartplotter fishfinders I’ve posted a review of the Lowrance LMS-525c. This machine combines a 5-inch display screen with an internal 500-watt sonar and is a good example of the older Lowrance line.

HDS-Series The newest HDS-series units from Lowrance feature four different chartplotter models with various screen sizes that can be ordered as a standalone chartplotter, standalone sounder, or specified as a chartplotter fishfinder. The Lowrance HDS-5 is the smallest screen version yet still features a 16-bit color TFT display screen that measures 5-inches on the diagonal and carries a 480 by 480 pixel resolution.

Next up the ladder is the Lowrance HDS-7. This unit has the same basic operational features as its little brother but uses a 6.4-inch color screen with 640 by 480 pixels.

There are two big screen versions in the HDS-series. The smaller of the two is the Lowrance HDS-8. It has an 8.2-inch display screen and six soft keys to assist in unit operation.

The Lowrance HDS-10 is the big screen unit in the series. It has the same six soft keys and screen resolution but uses a larger 10.4-inch display. Every HDS-series chartplotter features high speed data ports and a number of onboard cartography options
